New Artist, No Gimmick!
At last, someone comes along to breath new life into an otherwise stale music industry; and that someone is Vanessa Renee! Unlike countless of other young female pop icons, Vanessa Renee is void of gimmicks; not bubble-gum, not trashy, not skater. Playing keyboards and singing original tunes, all alone except for bass player and backing vocalist, her sound as big as a rainbow and sharp as a sword. Vanessas song writing talent is surpassed by no one!

Interview
Vanessa has a CD, 'Stones', available thru her website, her fantastic shows and exclusive record stores. As her career is gaining momentum, we here at Funky Rock News feel very fortunate to have a one-on-one interview with this brilliant musician, So, without further ado... here's Vanessa!
Q. Who is currently in your band? Vanessa: Myself and Erik Peterson on bass. Q. How long have you
been writing and performing?
Vanessa: Technecally since I was six. However I have been seriously performing and writing my own music for about 5 years.
Q. Do you ever get 'writers block?'
Vanessa: Yup, whenever things are hunky dorey I just cannot find a spark!
Q. Do you find playing before a live audience a great motivator?
Vanessa: Absolutely!
Q. Does your manager or anyone else in the music industry try to steer you subject matter into any particular direction?
Vanessa: Not yet :)
Q.When you decide what to put on your CD, do you go on instinct, what you like or what your audience has been most receptive to?
Vanessa: Well right now I have just started on my second CD so it's a combination of both.

Q. When can we expect a new CD and is any major label backing you? Vanessa: Hope to release my second CD by next spring. I am on an indie record label (Rising Siren Records) Q. What kind of obsticles have you ran into pursuing your musical career? Vanessa: Hmmm. Well the key is to be persistant. It's kind of like "need a car before you can get a job before you can get a car" circle. So I know there are many many obsticles to overcome in order to get established -but... I am keeping my chin up and whistlin' as I go.
Q. What are your aspirations musically?
Vanessa: Well I love to perform, I love to write and I love to sing.
My goals are to do as much as possible and I guess we'll see where it takes me :)
Q. Do you have any political or social "cause", or any major gripe you'd like to address in public?
Vanessa: Nope! Just happy to be here- doing what I love!!
* Be sure to visit Vanessa Renees website and don't miss her live show! Last word... Vanessa is Vantastic!!
